

We choose these four social media apps that are commonly used by Chinese international students. Soul mainly connects users based on common interests. Discord allows students from the same class to chat together. Zenly allows users to see friends’ locations. Bogoo’s identity check assures the authenticity of user information. Learning from their strengths, we decide to make our app a secure place for users to meet like-minded students both online and offline.

We drew a jellyfish for our logo for mainly two reasons: First, our color scheme reminded us of a cute little jellyfish swimming in the blue ocean. Second, since a jellyfish has many tentacles, we thought it could be a sign of multitasking. Overall, we wish our logo can convey a warm and welcoming feeling, and we hope our app can help the users to achieve a good balance between their social and academic life.
For the app name, each of the team members came up with an idea and we let our target users to decide for us: We made a voting post with our logo and a brief description of the app and shared it to our WeChat Moment. Within the 24 hours voting window, we gathered 67 responses. Out of the four names, Nino, Jelly, Joint, and Kuma. “Nino” received the most votes and eventually became our app name.
